The Shift

In exactly 15 days… I turn eighteen. With that being said, over the past few months, I’ve begun to feel a shift in myself. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s this thing where you go to bed one night and you wake up. Then you go on with your day but, while you’re driving or doing some mundane task, something shifts. You literally feel it inside you and you start to look at things, well everything, differently.

My “shift” made me want to protect my peace a little more, worry a little less about the small things, and oddly enough, develop a routine. Because of my “shift”, I pretty much do the same thing every day. I used to wonder how people could be so routine-driven. Up until a few months ago, I was all over the place. No two days were alike. Although it worked for a little while by keeping me entertained, I was not focused. I was always tired and would find my shower thoughts being consumed with “WTF am I even supposed to be doing?". Now, because of this new little routine, my only shower thoughts are about how freezing the water is.

If you would have told me six months ago that I stopped drinking coffee and switched to chai, or that I eat the same Trader Joe’s strawberry cereal bars (please don’t buy them all) every weekday for breakfast, I would think you were lying. I mean the breakfast part alone is crazy. Since my routine I have been a major breakfast girlie, it’s kind of annoying. Even though I do the same thing nearly every day, and still don’t have my life all the way figured out, I have never been more focused. Adding structure to my life was one of the best decisions I’ve made for myself. I won’t encourage you to do the same because well, that’s kind of stupid. Why would I encourage you to do something that might not even work for you? I will encourage you though to take some time to yourself in order to figure out who you are and what your habits are like. Figuring out those things…that will help you thrive. I promise.

All my Love,

Claire
